Unbearable Lightness - A Review

I must admit that part of the reason I pick up this book is because the author, Portia de Rossi is a famous Hollywood celebrity. It drew my attention and makes me wonder how well an actress can self write a book? Surprisingly, it had turned out to be a great one.

Portia started modeling at the age of 12. She was very determined to become a great model and in order to achieve her ultimate dream; she got herself going through a very hard and painful diet journey. When it came to the extreme to achieve her ideal size and weight, Portia bingeing and purging herself with the hope to get her abs flatter and gain smaller tights.

From the book, Portia brought out the reality of Hollywood celebrities' lifestyle, i.e. some actresses would have to starve themselves in order to achieve that ideal weight and perfect body size, and looks good on screen. Celebrity, who told the reporter she is having her best moment of life, was not always telling you the truth.

Being gay and Anorexia had been haunting the author for years and she was struggled to fight these stress all by herself. It is heart breaking to read that such a beautiful woman like Portia de Rossi calling herself "Dyke", "Pig" and some other terrible names. I simply cannot imagine how a lovely lady looks herself in that way and she hated herself that much. At the end of the book, Portia shared with readers how love saves her life and how you should be grateful and accept who you are, whether you are gay or straight.

The author, Portia de Rossi delivered the book in such a great way to her readers. Her memoir is honest and touching. The content is well delivered and easy to understand. You can almost feel the pains and struggles the author had been through during her dark period. I would definitely recommend this great book to everyone.
