An Innocent Priest's Struggle to Clear His Name

The Conspiracy: An Innocent Priest, written by Monsignor William McCarthy, is the biography of a man who was falsely accused of the molestation of two young sisters and his struggle to overcome one of the worst injustices that could happen to an innocent man.

McCarthy's story is about what happened to him after being accused in 2003 and how faith helped him overcome depths of despair, disappointment and degradation that this injustice brought into his life.

Monsignor McCarthy was on the eve of his retirement from a career as priest and pastor that had brought him accolades and recognition throughout his life. The Conspiracy is the result of McCarthy keeping a detailed journal for years following the accusation, and it chronicles his exile from the church, friends and everything that had once made his life enjoyable.

McCarthy was in agony about the accusation and the horrific changes it wrought in his life. A time that was supposed to be happy and reflective was turning into sadness and despair. The unfairness of it all weighed heavily on the Monsignor's mind and he found that he had to pull deeply from his abiding faith to get through those horrific times.

In The Conspiracy, McCarthy tells the story of how an anonymous complaint was accepted as the truth by his friend of 40 years - and a bishop of the church. The hierarchy of the church began their steps that would attempt to put blight on McCarthy's stellar career and condemn him for the rest of his days.

After being accused, the Monsignor spent the following five years attempting to prove his innocence - both to the church and the community who condemned him. When his friend of 40 years and bishop of the church deserted him, he only had his faith to cling to.

Readers will find inspiration and strength from McCarthy's words in The Conspiracy. You'll learn how one man found a faith deeper than he knew existed and how it worked to overcome an accusation that was both unfair and unwarranted.

The Vatican finally reinstated Monsignor McCarthy into the church, but the scars from the false accusation will last forever. If anything good came out of his experience, it's the culmination of this excellent book, The Conspiracy. Anyone who goes through an experience that alters your life and tests your beliefs will draw strength from it.
