After the Stroke of Midnight by Robert F Smith

Robert Smith's new book is a biography and an instruction manual. Robert Smith suffered a stroke over twenty years ago. Rather than write a bio full of self pity and sorrow, Bob has turned tragedy into an inspirational and educational story. It is rare that stroke victims can relate, to family or friends, their experiences and wisdom since the disability usually limits the articulateness of the victim. In After the Stroke of Midnight, Bob details his struggle and his victories as only one who experienced such setbacks first hand. Therefore, his book is of great importance to stroke victims, support groups and family members.

December 1990, Bob had a stroke and his life changed forever. Bob's stroke started with a strong pulse that raced through his body. The author relates it to sticking your finger in a light socket. Hours later, Bob experienced nausea. Shortly thereafter, he fell to the floor. So began his journey,

In the book, the reader will find much relevance to the lesser struggle that we all face, and comfort to overcome the greater ones. Bob's research is evident in: the signs of a stroke; therapy needed; scientific background information, and even how to perform simple tasks well, even if one is impaired. Included are photos of simple tasks (like tying shoe laces) along with easy instructions. Relevant, compassionate and informative material.

However, Bob struggle did not end with a stroke. He late got cancer and that is also part of his story. Again, Bob gives the reader his experiences along with relevant information on the illness experienced. Overcoming one hardship is commendable, but victory over many is a living inspiration to us all.

The reader will grasp the frustration and...cheer at the victories of a man who overcame, readjusted, and persevered in his life and in his faith.

Highly personal, highly instructive, highly educational and clearly written.Bob's humor throughout the book, his positive attitude, and a tell all style will get the attention of most readers. I would recommend After the Stroke of Midnight to readers 14- Adult.

Robert F. Smith was born in North Carolina in 1947. Robert is a survivor of both cancer and a stroke which left him partially paralyzed on the left side. To all of his friends, his challenges brought out the best in him. Bob lives in Eastern North Carolina.
